Accessibility and Inclusivity

At Daisho Con, we strive to make our events inclusive and accessible for all of our attendees.  While our accessibility program is in its infancy, we hope to make Daisho Con an improved experience each year for our attendees that may require additional accommodations.  Although we can’t remove every barrier at Daisho Con, we will do our best to provide accommodations within the limitations of the convention center, finances, and staffing.  We would love to hear any questions or comments you may have at accessibility@daishocon.com.

Accessibility Information at Daisho Con

Your main hub of information for accessibility services during Con weekend will be located in the Daisho Con Control Room (Empress Room).  Our trained staff will be available to answer your questions and provide additional informational resources throughout the weekend.  The Daisho Con Control Room will be staffed at all hours of the convention for your convenience.

+Line Assistance

If you need accommodations for waiting in lines (ie: difficulty with prolonged standing, etc) please ask a Daisho Staff member for assistance or request in advance at Control Room

+Optional Service Animal Badging

Working service animals (as defined by ADA) may receive optional service animal badge at the Control Room.

  • Service animals (as defined by ADA) may be requested to be removed from the convention space if :(1) the animal is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it or (2) the animal is not housebroken.  Service animals must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered at all times.  Service animals may be exempt if these devices interfere with the service work or the individual’s disability prevents using these devices. In that case, the individual must maintain control of the animal through voice, signal, or other effective controls.  Daisho Con will adhere to Kalahari Resorts and Convention Center policies and decisions.
  • Service animals (as defined by ADA) may not be incorporated into cosplays.  This is to reduce confusion for working animals, their handlers, staff, and attendees.
  • Pets are not allowed in the convention space.

+Advanced Seating/ Seating Assistance

  • Main Programming events will allow for advance seating for our attendees needing additional time.  Please arrive at least 15 minutes early and inform Daisho Con staff.  Plan appropriately for popular events as seating may be limited.  Advanced seating/Seating assistance does not guarantee admission to all events or special access.
  • Due to scheduling limitations, advance seating may not be an option outside of Main Programming.  If you would like seating assistance for events outside of Main Programming, you may request in advance at the Control Room or ask a Daisho Con staff member to assist you.

Potential Barriers

While we would like to make every aspect of Daisho Con fully accessible for all attendees, we are unable to remove all barriers at this time due to financial, logistical, and staffing limitations.  For your convenience we have compiled a list of potential barriers that may exist at Daisho Con.

  • Potential for hallway congestion by Artist Alley. Staff and Volunteers will keep foot-traffic flowing to best of their ability.
  • Potential for aisle congestion in Vendor Hall.  Staff and Volunteers will keep foot-traffic flowing to best of their ability.
  • No family break room within Convention Center space.  Nursing mothers are welcome to feed their children anywhere they feel comfortable in the Convention space. Daisho Con does not currently have a private space to offer parents/guardians at this time.
  • Panel room host tables are on a 6 inch high stage without ramp access.  If you are hosting a panel, please notify Daisho Con in advance and we can move the table and microphones for your convenience.
  • Cosplay Island contains a 2 foot high stage without ramp access currently.
  • Daishotorium contains a 2 foot high stage without ramp access.  The only events that allow attendees on stage in this room are Karaoke, Daisho Show.  Our staff will accommodate as much as they are able to.
  • For attendees with mobility disabilities, it is recommended to use the Main Convention Center entrance or the West Convention Center entrance.  These entries have several parking spaces for those with disability permits.  The main Hotel entrance is also suitable.  The entrance near the DoubleCut Restaurant has several limitations for persons with mobility disabilities and is not recommended.
  • Ground level wheelchair access between the Sands Building and Convention Center is challenging.  It is recommended to use the Skywalk on Level 2 to cross the road between the Sands building and the Convention Center. The skywalk is accessible from the Convention Center elevator near the DoubleCut Restaurant.
  • Lighting during Rave, Concert, and Karaoke may stimulate epileptic reactions.
  • High sensory stimulation is possible during the convention.  Currently we don’t not have a low sensory room available for attendees due to the Convention Center layout limitations.  These are some potential alternatives are: visit your hotel room to relax in our own controlled space, visit the Art Room for a quieter space with minimum talking and a chance to color, or visit our Manga Room for a silent room.  If you need to immediately leave the convention space, you may ask any Daisho Con staff to help quickly escort you out of the convention space.
  • DoubleCut Restaurant has a revolving door for entry and may be challenging to attendees with mobility devices.  Other restaurants in the Kalahari Resort are accessible.
  • Attached AMC theater does not have accessible doors.
  • Indoor Theme Park may be challenging for persons with sensory disorders.  Many activities have accessible access.
